Mostar Hypertext version 4.0-v 1997 (UNESCO plan)

"URBAN HERITAGE MAP AND REHABILITATION PLAN OF STARI GRAD"

MOSTAR HYPERTEXT version 4.0/UNESCO

Chief coordinator of the plan: arch. Carlo Blasi - Hypertext: arch. Manfredo Romeo & arch. Bernardo Rossi.

The plan for the safeguarding of the monuments of the entire town of Mostar and for the reconstruction of the historical district of Stari Grad, as wished for by UNESCO, was carried out over a brief period of five months, between March and July of 1997, thanks to funding put forth by the Italian Government. UNESCO has seen the urgency of promptly furnishing a plan for the safeguarding of the historical and architectural heritage damaged by the war and for the reconstruction of the ancient town, before the degradation due to time or poorly co-ordinated interventions might bring to irreparable losses or to work inconsistent with the characteristics of a town of art as precious as Mostar. The publication examines the historical development of Mostar with an urbanistic analysis of the current situation and a classification of buildings by type and importance. Besides it reports a study upon the technologies of construction and the stones of Mostar, and includes the elaboration of photographic documentation. Such kind of researches allowed the creation of an architectural and urban rehabilitation plan of the town, containing a map of the areas to be protected and the suggested works to be carried out for the rebuilding of this precious city.

The work titled "URBAN HERITAGE MAP AND REHABILITATION PLAN OF STARI GRAD" was published trough the use of the cd-rom (version 4.0) and trough a book (with the same cover of the disk). All the contents of the book are included in the cd-rom which is much wider since it contains all the schedules on the buildings of the historical core of Mostar.

"MOSTAR: FROM STARI GRAD TO THE CENTRAL ZONE, REHABILITATION PLAN"

arch. Manfredo Romeo - arch. Bernardo Rossi

(coordination arch. Carlo Blasi and arch. Gaetano di Benedetto) - University of Florence - Italy.

This hypertext includes either the Unesco plan (version 4.0/UN), either the Centre 2° plan (a design proposal worked out in the University of Florence of Architecture - Technical reports in Italian language). The whole system is Mostar CD version 5.0 and counts more than 2000 hypertext pages plus all the text. The study is composed of analysis tables, design tables, detailed technical report on the area, design elaboration and full photo documentation. For an easy introduction to the work there is also a video clip, and a virtual model with interactive navigation. The most important concept that has been developed in this reconstruction plan of the second centre of Mostar is the seek for a symbolic nucleus of public facilities and administration structures, that should be located in the middle of Mostar and over the confrontation line (as wanted by the Dayton agreements). The area is rich of historical monuments of the Austro-Hungarian period (harshly stricken in the war) and a project in this spot is the first step towards an impartial reconstruction of the town in the interest of both the communities. The full version includes, moreover, a global presentation (in Italian language) of Mostar: with wide historical, social and geographical notes.
